It All Begins Tomorrow

…ominous titles aside, I’m starting something tomorrow, so that will be fun. Working on it will be a good way to end what has been a nastily rough week.

I’ve got way too much to do. I have a buttload of internship applications, catchup homework and this new project. I could cry.

All-in-all, it’s been a very rough week. Coming out of it, though, at least I have something to look forward to. Creative world-wise, it gets me away from the one project that has been trapped in editing hell for three-going-on-four weeks. And it gives me what will either be a motivator to catch up and finish my work or what will be a whole other distraction.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to say it’s the former and not the latter.

Other things that I’m working on- two other writing projects both have first drafts that have been sitting for a short while that are ready to be revised. I’ve been told that the professor wants “bold” revisions on them, whether or not they go right or wrong. So that’ll be fun to work with. I like almost all the characters I’ve created so far, between Oliver Watterson, Arthur Cohn, Sarah Metis, Charlotte Haas, Johnny Stevenson and Emmy Gomez. I feel like Charlotte could definitely stand to be better developed, but for a first try, I’m actually rather happy with them.

The two stories, interestingly enough, are complete opposites to one another, and I think that one is weaker than the other as a result, but that’s alright.

At any rate, I’ve got some work to do, and I’ve got a post talking about these more in detail. So I’ll leave it here for now. See you all tomorrow!

What’s Happening Tomorrow?

I’ve spent the whole day working on internship applications!

Yahoo! I’ve been productive for once in my life~

No, but hello everyone! I’m just giving you all a casual Site News post- sorry to give you two in a row, I promise it won’t happen again.

But here’s a general game plan for anyone who’s interested:

You’ll be getting a silly little flash fiction tomorrow at noon! There was a thought that occurred to me, and it created a quick dialogue between two characters that I had to get down. That’s a habit that I’m going to try- inhabiting different characters rather than using my own voice. It should definitely be interesting!

I’ll be doing some coding practice for my New Media class tomorrow, as well as finally, finally starting Photoshop tutorials. And oh, Christ, I have to get around to sending emails eventually.

READING! That’s one thing I feel really guilty about not keeping up with recently. I’ll probably switch between “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and the different classic poets from my classes. I might end up live-tweeting that for anyone who’s interested…

I’ve also got some thoughts that’ll end up getting posted tomorrow- lemme know what you all think, I’d appreciate your input.

And with that, I think I’m off to bed. G’night, everyone!

Confessions and Forward

It’s been a long week, but here I am again with another update.

So the project I was stuck on- I’m not ditching it per se, but I think I’m scaling back. I’m just going to create what I CAN to be the very best of my ability.

So enough vague talk- I’m going to be straight with you guys. I’m working on some material for YouTube. Some comedic, some serious- I’d say a pretty even mix of both. I’ll be re-editing and adapting some of my old blog material for release, and I’m actually going to see if I can’t film one thing tomorrow night. Originally, I was going for an episodic series, but writer’s block has got me scaling back. I’m just trying to keep it simple, you know? I think one-shot videos can have just as good an effect (if not greater because the narrative or argument isn’t spread across multiple parts).

It’s been an interesting challenge, actually. I don’t really write for a visual medium- and my previous forays into YouTube were really just silly improvisations that were a lot of fun to do- and while this is a tad bit more organized, I can assure you- it’s just as much fun and it’s something I love doing.

With that being said, I’ve been thinking a lot and I’ve reached a conclusion about The Oddity Writer.

I think I’ve taken some missteps with it, and I should apologize to you all.

As I’ve discussed before, there’s a bit of a stigma with putting up work on the Internet, and I’ve had to face that with my parents, and on occasion, my friends. And as a result, I’ve struggled to do this blog justice without the usual stories and articles I normally supplied. And as a result, I’ve failed to show this place the proper respect it deserves.

Well, no more of that.

It’s time to get down to business. Throw my back into it. I’m going to go through the old posts, remove what was lacking, try to organize everything. So if the site’s a bit of a mess over the next two weeks or so, my apologies. But until then, you can expect that I’ll be working on stuff that I’m proud of this time.

And I’m going to dive back into the blogs that have flourished into my absence. I’m always talking about how I appreciate every one of you guys. It’s time I put my money where my mouth is and express it and connect with you all.

I’ve missed this endeavor. And it’s good to dive back into it again.

Well then.

Time to begin.

Three Articles, One Weekend

A minor problem that went unaccounted for- I spent a lot more time than expected on my original article, so I never ended up needing to fill out that form to pitch another story for the Monday deadline.

WELP! Time to shift into overdrive- I’m going to put together two different articles- one story about my hometown for a different section of the site or one about the upcoming celebrations- something like the top 10 ways to celebrate the Fourth of July or something!

But wait, Daniel, you ask, what’s the third article about?

Well, that’s the beauty of it, dear reader. The third article is this post. Apologies for running late this time around, but my friends had a reunion barbecue in celebration of the Fourth of July and it was just great to see them again.

There was also a bit of room for personal reflections and a lot of motivations that I’m going to set into motion tomorrow once I’m finally done with these articles. The key word? Regeneration.

I’ve also got this inner debate boiling up inside me. It’ll be interesting to see how that resolves. Anyways. That’s all for the next post(s). See you guys then- I’m off to write some more.

Concrete and Traction

This is the first (of hopefully very few times) that you will see my face.

I’ve been considering this Project for Self-Improvement for awhile and I’m really looking forward to settling it in motion. I want to be the best version of myself again, and now I’m taking steps to become that person again. So thank you for sticking with me thus far and for reading as I start this new journey once more.

Forthcoming

Daniel! Hey Daniel! Heeeeeeeey!

Oh dear God, it’s too early for this. Whaaaaat?

What are you working on and when is it gonna be ready?

Oh, geez, you woke me up for that?!

I mean you have class soon anywa-

Alright, ya got me. Fine. Work is continuing apace on this video memoir thing of mine. I’m working on the Introduction at the moment, and afterwards, I’ll get to work recording and editing the first few episodes before I finally release them to give myself a buffer. It’s a bit more difficult to balance all the writing and the school as it is, and I want to be good and ready before I throw this project into the mix.

As for other writing projects, I’m working on a few right now. One is very much an Oddity Writer-style post about why I became a writer, and I’ll be revising that over the next few days while adding photos to the submission. I also recently wrapped up an eyewitness account of the events of “Chalk” and posted it on Medium.com here, but I think I’ll be revising it soon for publication elsewhere.

This is, however, all in my spare time, and that’s pretty rare nowadays.

So what are you working on for school?

Well, the two projects taking up my time at the moment are papers, analytical presentations where I only have 10-20 seconds per slide (they’re called PechaKuchas and dear Lord they are not fun) and one project where I have to create a Shakespeare-themed game. But more details on that as the projects near completion. (I’ll be posting them online anyways.)

Wow, that’s a lot.

Yeah, I really need to make a time table at some point today. So I might finally go take a shower and then do just that.

Thank you guys so much for staying with me so far, and I’ll see you next time with a hopefully more substantive post about something more interesting than my little projects!

No More Distractions

Good morning and hi, ladies and gentlemen! As always, my name is Daniel and welcome back to The Oddity Writer. After the chaos that was all of Saturday and a bit of yesterday, I’m taking it easy. But I need to get up and running again quickly.

One valuable lesson that I seem to keep forgetting is that time is such a valuable commodity. It’s rare and it holds infinite potential. I can spend my moments with anyone, doing anything anywhere I want. I cannot waste a single second getting to work.

So I wanted to write this to remind myself, and to put my money where my mouth is. I don’t know if I’ll be doing daily blog posts to prove this again, but I’m going to set up a work schedule every single day to start reviewing and working for school. But there’s always going to be room for The Oddity Writer and my other projects on there. I really love you guys and making content for you guys to enjoy.

I recently started recording and editing my first videos for this finale project on the first blog, and I’m really looking forward to sharing this with you guys. I might actually have to go out tomorrow to shoot even MORE footage. So we’ll have to see.

I’ve got a lot of stuff left to do, guys, so I’m going to go, but I’ll see you all soon.

I hope you all have amazing days tomorrow. Never forget that you are ALL awesome. Take care, everyone! I’ll see you on the next page of this story.

Housecleaning Bulletin

Good morning and hi, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Daniel, and welcome back to “The Oddity Writer”! I just wrapped up a ton of housecleaning on the Internet, cleaning up the Twitter account, updating the About page with an addendum at the bottom, renaming “Memoirs and Musing” and adding about 10 entries to the table of contents.

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 3.19.14 PM

So now all that’s really left is to actually come up with content for Twitter and to consider Tumblr. And actually, this is what I’d like to ask you guys a question about- I’ll be posing the question – is whether or not I should reset the Tumblr blog and delete everything. Because the thing with Tumblr is that the blog there (theodditywriter.tumblr.com) was initially opened as a secondary writing blog, in order to facilitate more creations and to try and write more stuff that might not fit on the primary Oddity Writer blog. It would cover pretty much anything that this blog did not. However, my Tumblr account has diverged from that somewhat, for nowadays, I just end up reblogging a lot, without much actual original content. Normally, I wouldn’t care because all this is a hobby, but I still want to do something with the Tumblr blog… I have some ideas in the pipes.

Currently, I have the ability to take everything on the Tumblr blog and delete it all with that magical Mega-Editor, but I find myself hesitating. Yeah, it’s become a place where I screw around and just reblog silly things, GIFs and other random stuff, and the content might be fleeting. But it’s still part of a moment and I’m not ashamed of hiding my silliness.

So part of me doesn’t want to reset it. It’s all stuff I laughed or smiled at, or something that was important up there. So while I lean to keeping all the old stuff around, I thought I’d get your opinion on it all and take your opinion in mind.

But this is just a small update- telling you to look out for silly tweets and more original Tumblr comment in the future. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read, and I will see you in the next post!

Out with the Old: End of Act I

With a bit of the lull in activities, I believe now would be a good time to announce this.

The Oddity Writer will be on hiatus between July 1, 2015 and August 1, 2015.

The time will be devoted to both my growing novel and the blog. I plan to complete all 14 chapters of the novel and to work on some new features for The Oddity Writer. By August, I’ll be in the middle of chapter revisions, writing cover letters for publication, as well as getting ready for September, which is going to be quite busy for me.

And by August for the blog, you’ll be seeing:

  • More poetry/A diverse amount of poetry
  • A few chapters of the Mark Redwood series
  • Some new fiction (it’s going to be a bit different than you think)
  • Humor
  • And the typical thoughts on life, the universe and everything

I want to rethink The Oddity Writer, create some new things, and not on the old stuff and post daily when I know I can create something amazing with more time.

When I come back, you’ll be seeing something original and something I’ll be proud of something emotional and that makes me think. Since I started The Oddity Writer a year ago, this community has grown so much, and I’ve met so many awesome people. and I want to grow with them, share and write with them.

These great beginnings, this amazing first act, the people I’ve met, who I want to count as friends, it was amazing. Thank you all so much for that. And I will see you next time.

Mobile Posting

Hello, everyone! This is Daniel, the Oddity Writer reporting live from the mobile WordPress app because his computer up and died a quiet death while he was away. Rrrrrrgh.

Before it died, I was planning on finishing “CSPA, Future and Responses, Part III” for tonight but it looks like I’ll have to finish that for tomorrow. If you’d like a brief synopsis, it centers around what I did after that convention, how I applied such lessons.

I also need to do two other things- work on the novel a ton more and write one last post concerning the end of one part of my life and the beginning of another, about what I’ve learned and how far I’ve come.

To be clear, this won’t be the last Oddity Writer post, nooooo. You guys are stuck with me for a long time yet.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: No! No God Please No. No! Noooooooo!

And all I can say is “shhhh.” (Grins with a malicious glint of the teeth)
