It All Begins Tomorrow

…ominous titles aside, I’m starting something tomorrow, so that will be fun. Working on it will be a good way to end what has been a nastily rough week.

I’ve got way too much to do. I have a buttload of internship applications, catchup homework and this new project. I could cry.

All-in-all, it’s been a very rough week. Coming out of it, though, at least I have something to look forward to. Creative world-wise, it gets me away from the one project that has been trapped in editing hell for three-going-on-four weeks. And it gives me what will either be a motivator to catch up and finish my work or what will be a whole other distraction.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to say it’s the former and not the latter.

Other things that I’m working on- two other writing projects both have first drafts that have been sitting for a short while that are ready to be revised. I’ve been told that the professor wants “bold” revisions on them, whether or not they go right or wrong. So that’ll be fun to work with. I like almost all the characters I’ve created so far, between Oliver Watterson, Arthur Cohn, Sarah Metis, Charlotte Haas, Johnny Stevenson and Emmy Gomez. I feel like Charlotte could definitely stand to be better developed, but for a first try, I’m actually rather happy with them.

The two stories, interestingly enough, are complete opposites to one another, and I think that one is weaker than the other as a result, but that’s alright.

At any rate, I’ve got some work to do, and I’ve got a post talking about these more in detail. So I’ll leave it here for now. See you all tomorrow!

Act Two: Evolution and Joy

So, now would be a good time to jump back into the swing of things and start with an introduction, I suppose.

Good evening and hello, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Daniel, and I am the Oddity Writer. I spend my days having adventures, enjoying my life with family and friends, and talking about life, writing as I walk along this path. I’ve written stories, poems, journalism pieces, non-fiction opinion essays, and I’ve done a sort of memoir/vlog type of post for some time as well.

Over the past year, I have been recording my thoughts, opinions and reflections through this blog, doing my best to create content that you guys will find worth your time, and recently, I decided to leave WordPress for a month to work on my novel and improving “The Oddity Writer”, promising to return.

This is that return.

So here’s a bit of a status update for those of you who are interested.

The Novel: It’s getting there. The plot is thickening. It’s gotten a bit longer. The characters have grown and a villain has actually emerged. But it needs a lot more work and I have a long way to go. I’ll be sure to keep you all posted.

The Blog: I’ve been developing a few new Oddity Writer features and written a few things for each of them. I’m going to be gradually switching things up, but I hope to preserve what was really good about this blog.

The first new feature is “Responder”, in which I write stories and poems based off of writing prompts I find across the Internet.

The next feature is “Talk it Out”, where I talk about topics that caught the public attention and piqued my interest. There will be plenty of opinion articles, humor and reviews interspersed in these posts.

The final new feature is called “Circumnavigation- The Free Beer Initiative”. This is my chance to give back to the WordPress community by featuring other blogs and perhaps doing some interviews.

And finally, a status report on..

My writing in general: Honestly, I’ve stalled a bit. I’m trying to find my voice, a happier, more adventurous voice that isn’t quite as dark as I felt before, and trying to improve everything.

I’ll be posting new content for each of the features, so let me know what you think of each one, on how I can improve. But it feels good to be back in the saddle again for now. Thank you all for reading thus far! I will see you all tomorrow.

Song of the Day: “Settle it in Smash” by Yungtown and Garrett Williamson

It’s been stuck in my head all day.

Sharing and Talking

Since I was absent for today, I was unable to write a post. However, I would like to give you guys the chance to talk amongst yourselves and share your own work, your own blogs in the comments below.

So you’re welcome to either share a post or your blog along with an explanation or an introduction, or answer this question of the day:

Who or what inspires you? And what is the best thing in your life that inspiration has wrought?

Let me know what you think or who you are. Thank you guys so much for the support, it means so much. I’ll see you all tomorrow for the Liebster Award post!
